The Plumbskill Centre was originally started in 2003 offering Plumbing and Heating courses to anyone wishing to change careers. Since then we have moved to much larger premises so can now offer a range of courses to suit you all under one roof.

As I am sure you are aware from the media coverage and also possibly from your own experiences there is an acute shortage of building tradesmen in the UK. The reason for this is quite simple. For the past 15 to 20 years school leavers have found it virtually impossible to gain apprenticeships in the building trade. This has resulted in a shortage as there are thousands of tradesmen retiring every year and not being replaced. They say there is no such thing as a job for life but when it comes to building trades this is not the case. Owning a house is the largest investment most people will make. Who builds and maintains these houses? Thousands of houses have to be built every year to keep up with demand. We are not just talking houses there are also factories, offices, hotels and shops that all need to be built and maintained. Who is going to do it? It could be you.

Travelling from abroad
We have had many students who have come to us from Ireland, France and Spain. With two airports (Bournemouth and Southampton) close by it could not be easier. We can even arrange to collect you from the airport and return you on completion of the course. With accommodation in Blandford town close to the plumbing training centre there is no reason for you to have your own transport.

The Courses we have to offer

All our courses are practical hands on [actually doing it] no classroom studies. Theory work is important, but we believe the best place to do this in the comfort of your own home. With the paperwork that we supply you, and books that we can advise you on, we feel this to be the best option.

Plumbing and Heating
Our plumbing and heating courses, whether you attend the 1 week domestic plumbing course or the 2 week plumbing and heating course will give you enough knowledge and skill to earn good money from this lucrative trade. There are various options open to you after attending either of the plumbing courses i.e. complete career change, to compliment other building skills you already have or even do your own plumbing in your own home.

Solar Heating
Our solar heating course has been designed by us to enable you to confidently install your own solar heating system at a fraction of the cost that a solar heating installation company would charge you. Plumbing skills learnt on this course would also give you the knowledge to carry out other plumbing work. The initial plumbing training is the same as is taught on our full time plumbing course.

Wall and Floor Tiling
The 1 or 2 week wall and floor tiling courses would prove invaluable to anyone wishing to become a professional tiller or simply be able to carry out tiling projects in their own home. Either option will give you good earning potential or save you money on employing a tiller for your home tiling needs.

Wall and floor tillers are in huge demand at the moment as fashions have changed. Gone are the days when you had a few rows of tiles around the bath and basin. These days customers want floor to ceiling wall tiling and the floor tiled. The latest trend is to do away with fitted carpets because of the health implications, and go for easier to clean options i.e. laminate flooring or floor tiles in any room they choose to have it.

Plastering
The 4 day plastering course is very intensive and will give you the skills and knowledge to confidently do plastering work in your own home or start you off on a complete career change. Other building trades would also find this course invaluable as an add on skill to compliment their current trade.

Electricical - Courses due to start early 2008
The 2 day foundation course is for anyone with little or no electrical experience, and has to be achieved before attending the part P course.

The 5 day part P course [accredited by NICEIC the governing body] will allow you to legally carry out electrical work in domestic dwellings This course is ideal for anyone doing electrical work as part of their everyday job i.e. plumbers, carpenters, kitchen fitters and general builders...

[BEWARE OF FAST TRACK PLUMBING COURSES] 

You may have read articles telling you to beware of fast track plumbing courses.To a certain extent this is true. There are courses available that you need to be wary of. We at Plumbskill have had students come to us who have paid literally thousands of pounds to franchise companies, only to find the training provided inadequate and the promise of work non existent.There are also courses that are tied in with city and guilds, but they can be misleading , as most potential plumbing students wrongly believe that they will come away from that course with a full nvq plumbing qualification after paying thousands of pounds. We at Plumbskill understand that our fast track courses do not suit everyone, but we do encourage everyone to eventually become qualified. As I'm sure you are aware the qualification route is quite complex and can be very expensive.We do not make any false promises, but what we do say is true and honest.If you want to learn the practical skills as quickly as possible to enable you to start work straightaway for an employer or be self employed our courses would allow you to do this. We do realise the importance of theory work but believe that this can be learnt in the comfort of your own home instead of sitting in a classroom in a training centre possibly miles from home and costing you a lot of money.The paperwork we provide you with at the start of our course and the details of possibly the best nvq theory books on the market is possibly all that you need.The choice is yours.
